Car load is either a) Quantity of freight required to fill a railcar or b) specified quantity necessary to qualify a shipment for a carload rate.

Carload Freight Rate

Carload Freight Rate is a special rate offered to companies by railways to encourage them to ship in carload (c.l.) rather than less-than-carload (l.c.l.) quantities.
