Know before you ship

Importing into the EU: what to know.

  • EU responsible person. Consumer products sold in the EU need an EU-based responsible person under the General Product Safety Regulation.
  • €3 parcel duty. Low-value parcels sent directly to EU consumers pay €3 per item since 1 July 2026; bulk imports pay normal duty instead.
  • Import VAT. Due on import, with postponed accounting available in some EU countries.
  • Advance cargo data. Carriers must file ICS2 entry summary declarations before goods arrive.
FAQ

Europe–China: common questions.

Guides: Shipping from China to Europe · The €3 EU parcel duty · EU VAT: OSS and IOSS

How long does shipping from China to Europe take?

By sea, typically about 42–46 days from Shanghai to Rotterdam while most carriers route via the Cape of Good Hope; rail takes about 12–25 days and air a few days.

Is rail a good option from China to Europe?

Rail sits between sea and air: faster than sea and cheaper than air, which suits time-sensitive stock and higher-value goods.

Can you clear EU customs and store goods for us?

Yes. We handle EU import clearance and store your goods in warehouses in six EU countries, ready to fulfil orders.

How do I avoid the €3 duty on parcels from China?

Import in bulk into an EU warehouse and ship orders domestically from there, so individual orders are no longer low-value imports.
